Kitchen Design: The Right Edge for Your Kitchen Countertop

Kitchen remodeling or kitchen designing is a crucial aspect of the overall construction of your house or remodeling of certain aspects of your abode and most of us are very particular about it. But when it really comes down to the details, are you sure you have considered everything that can make your kitchen unique? Well besides choosing the kitchen countertops that are so very important to a kitchen, there is one thing which most of us ignore or are casual about-countertop edges. Yes, kitchen countertop edges are integral to kitchen and have a great impact on the finished product.

So here are a few examples or varieties of kitchen countertop edges that you can choose from.

  • Square, standard thickness-this is the most basic countertop edge design which goes well with simple kitchens. This material really doesn’t shout out for attention and is often the choice of most people.

  • Square, mitered-this type of an edge has more thickness than the standard one mentioned above and makes your kitchen countertop slab look a lot thicker than it actually is.  This design works well for any type of kitchen-whether modern looking or traditional.

  • Eased, mitered-this type of a mitered edge has slightly rounded edges and looks a little softerand eased out.  It is same as square mitered as far as the thickness is concerned.

  • Waterfall edge, square-if you are someone who wants to make the countertop the focal point of your kitchen, then this edge design works the best for you.  This design looks as if it is running downwards in a vertical pattern and is pleasing to the eye.

  • Ogee-this type of an ogee design goes really well in modern day kitchens and it also has a square edge on the perimeter walls.  It may be a timeless classic but works well in contrast with modern sheek looking kitchens.

  • Marine-you will see a lot of marine edges in the case of stainless steel kitchens and these have an outside edge that is raised to show more thickness but not like that of the case of a mitered edge.

  • Bullnose-for traditional kitchens, the bullnose edge works like a timeless classic which has a slightly rounded sides for a softer look and feel.
